BOOBS AND BICEPTS - STILL IN
There was an erie silence in the stadium as Batista lay there on the mat with the hulking beast that is John Cena, standing above him holding a chair like an executioner. The emotions of the crowd got more and more intense with every flex of Cena's muscles. As the sweat drips off of his intensified biceps, his defined back is turned away from the audience as he takes a swing. BANG! Out comes Batistas entourage, two very busty, blonde, bimbos. With every step, it seems as if their breasts are in a different zip code, and thus catching Cenas’s
attention. With the given opportunity, Batista staggers to his feet and in one swift movement he…
If you still don’t know where you are, you’re ringside at a major wrestling event. The men stand like Gods and the women like their Goddess counterparts. Wrestling is a sysmbol of who is hot and s all the hype in the US and Canada. -
http://youtube.com/watch?v=4vrx-2gERYk&mode=related&search). The truth is that muscular men, and women with large breasts and butts are definitely in. People with these features in wrestling are portrayed as the best. The promoters of wrestling know exactly what the trends are and they know how to capture the attention of the audience. In fact, we form an opinion of someone after only 30 seconds. The promoters know this, that is why wrestlers need to look like those in the pinnacle of society.
I also looked into some other areas of life to see what the societal trends are for various groups. Firstly, I conducted a little survey of 40 university students ( 20 girls and 20 guys). I asked the girls who they thought the hottest men were and I asked the guys who the hottest women were.
The Girls said...
# 1 BRAD PITT
#3 Leonardo DiCaprio
* As you can see 2 of 3 men are very muscular
# 2 Mark Wahlberg* I followed up by asking these 20 girls what slim man they favoured and what muscular an they favoured. The two most popular answers were Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. I then went onto Google and searched both names. Brad Pitt's 7+ million hits almost doubled DiCaprio's 3+ million hits. This stat is consistant with the results from my survey and the fact that women favour muscular men.
The Guys said...
# 1 Brittney Spears #2 Angelina Jolie
* I asked guys why they chose these
women. They basically said that these
women had all the physical features a guy looks for in a woman
#3 Lindsay Lohan
* Again I asked these guys if they could pick one slim woman and a busty woman, who would it be?
The most popular answer was Paris Hilton, the most popular woman with large breasts was Brittney Spears had 64 + million hits on Google over Hilton's 45 million. The purpose of the survey was to communicate with a variety of audiences. A group of university students stated that they essentially, beleive that the trend is not going to switch. Also, using the web, one of the largest forums for communication I discovered that trendy celebs got many more hits, making them more popular.
The examples go on and on. Take a look at Tyra Banks. Ten years ago she was slim and extremely popular. Today her breasts are just as big and her butt even bigger and she is more popular than ever. She now owns two huge mediums of communication, The Tyra Banks Show and yet another hit show, America’s Next Top Model. It seemed as though Tyra used her body to rasie her status. Now she reaches more people than ever through her shows. If you even take a look at the hype behind penis size in today’s culture, it’s huge! At least that’s what most men claim. Men and women alike believe that the size of a man’s penis, or his muscles are a representation of his manhood. Unless the idea of manhood is going to go out of stlye too, I don't think this path is going to change. The very reeason that people put so much emphasis on this is becasue of the media. The media has such a tremendous effect on people's lives that they have the power to completely change how we view the world or our penises.
Another great example is the current trends in the market of plastic surgery. If you follow this link you will find proof that plastic surgery is on the rise. (
http://www.plasticsurgery.org/media/press_releases/2006-Stats-Overall-Release.cfm). The rate of surgeries is in fact rising almost as fast as women’s cup sizes. If you look at this article you will find that now, for the first time, breast implants are the most popular form of plastic surgery. This is great evidence of the raw power of the media today. Women are so influenced by what is popular that they are actually willing to alter their bodies and pay thousands for it.
I feel like Amy Collins, the author of the article, "Shape of Thighs to Come", is actually a bit of a hypocrite. She writes an article about how the trends are so drastically changing and how the intellectual look is in (bags of bones in designer clothing). But she is publishing this article in the magazine Vanity Fair. They of course, are trying to sell as many magazines as possible so they try to appeal to as many people as possible. Why would they have magazine covers like these if this trend was going out of style, according to Amy Collins? I believe that Collins did this intentionally to bring on debates such as these. In making a bold statement like this she will stir up conversation between people in an attempt to not only reach more people but acquire more fans and more subscribers. She makes many references to the world of fashion and makes it sound like the world has flipped upside down. Collins seems to be forgetting that many models have been banned for being too skinny (View these link and tell me that you believe that is sexy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miH2_qJEcjg&mode=related&search= )A ban that was initiated by the Spanish government to send a message to its people that the look is unhealthy and its also unattractive to many. She seems to be forgetting someone like Tyra Banks whose fame has ballooned in the past years along with the size of her bottom. I believe very strongly that the current trend of having large breasts and large bicepts is here to stay and that the media will ride it all the way home.
